1xBet Pitches 1xCup Proposal in Lagos

A report on 1 July 2025 said a 1xBet group visited the Lagos State Lotteries and Gaming Authority on 26 June 2025. They brought a plan for a 1xCup community football tournament.

Waheed Akanni, a former Nigerian international footballer, went with them. The plan said it would give local players a way to be seen by scouts and club people.

Akanni said community pitches had turned out several well-known Nigerian footballers. He said he was glad about the planned tournament. Bashir Are, who runs the LSLGA as its chief executive, also said he welcomed efforts to grow sport.

What was planned

The plan started with regional qualifiers across Lagos local-government areas. A citywide championship was planned for later in 2025.
